FAQ

Q How do I sign up?
A
Please go to the sign-up page and fill in your information - click here.
Q Which network does Be B’Kesher use; do I live in an area that has coverage?
A
You can check your area's coverage here.
Q Do I have to sign any kind of a long-term contract?
A
All plans are monthly plans that can be cancelled before the beginning of the next month, without any cancellation fee.
Q Do I need to renew the plan at the beginning of each month?
A
Plans automatically renew the first day of the month. With the exception of phones activated on the 29th - the 31s of the first month of service, the monthly renewal date is determined by the date of the original activation. Activations done at the end of the month are prorated for the first month to the first of the upcoming month, and then renew on the first of the month from thereon.
Q If I choose to cancel service, when do I need to cancel my service by?
A
As plans automatically renew, in order to cancel for the upcoming month, you will need to contact customer service 1 week before your plan renews. Once the month begins, refunds cannot be made. The phone will work until the end of the month and then not renew.
Q Do the minutes I don't use one month carry over to the next?
A
Minutes do not carry over to next month but we have a variety of plans and Add-ons that make it easy for you to pick the optimal plan for your child’s monthly usage. As plans are charged by the month, you can change to a more suitable plan before the monthly renewal date.
Q Are there any fees at the time of activation?
A
There are no activation fees but there is a maintenance fee at the beginning of each school year. It is $25/year for schools that utilize the contact or time manager and $10/year for schools that only restrict internet.
Q What can I do if my child’s phone runs out of minutes?
A
In case your child runs out of minutes on his plan, you can purchase extra minutes by adding money to his “wallet”. The rate for minutes above the base plan is $.10/minute. As wallet money never expires, you do not need to wait until he runs out of minutes to add the money. You can add the money at any time if you are concerned that he might go over his monthly plan.
Q What happens if I want to stop service for one month?
A
You can stop service for one month and resume it at a later time. However, after there is a two month lapse, the account might get closed and you will need to reactivate the phone and you will receive a new phone number. Alternatively, you can switch to a cheaper plan for those months, in order to keep the plan active and remain with that phone number.
Q Do I need to purchase the phone and plans from Be B’Kesher or can I use my own phone and plan?
A
In order to be part of the Be B’Kesher system, the monthly plan needs to be purchased from Be B’Kesher. However, most Sprint phones can be used on the system, as long as they are no longer associated with an account. Please be aware that some schools require their students to purchase the same models that we sell on our site, so it might be worth it to check with the school’s regulations before purchasing a phone privately.
Q Will I need to activate my phone when I receive it?
A
It depends on which phone you choose. We ship our phones from multiple locations. At certain locations phones are activated before they are shipped. For those that are shipped before activation, upon receiving your phone, you will need to send us your ESN number in order for us to activate the phone. The ESN# can be found under the battery. It will have ESN or DEC next to it. (Please do not give the HEX number.) Sometimes the ESN# can be found on the outside of the box that the phone came in. You can call customer service or email us at schools@bebkesher.com. Please include your child’s name, school and order number that you received with your order receipt.
Q Can I make international calls?
A
Not directly, but you may be able to use an international calling card. Also, you can receive calls as long as you are in an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network.
Q Can you briefly explain how my child’s phone will work on the Be B’Kesher for Schools system?
A
The Be B’Kesher for Schools system works according to the specifications of your child’s school. During allowed times, your child can call and receive calls as well as send and receive texts (if texting is permitted by your child’s school). During non-allowed times, the phone will not work, for calling and texting. If your child’s school only allows certain phone numbers (e.g. parents, grandparents...) the phone will only be able to call/text or receive calls/texts to and from those authorized numbers. Check your school’s program for feature details and schedules.
Q What happens if someone calls or sends a text message to my child’s phone during a non-allowed time?
A
The call or text will not go through. The caller will hear the message “The call cannot be completed at this time.”
Q Does Be B’Kesher provide information about my child’s account to the school?
A
Be B’Kesher does not release any account or call details to the school without your consent. We do provide the schools with a list of students who have joined the Be B’Kesher program and the names and phone numbers that you have submitted for the allowed contacts. We also provide the school with the monthly plan associated with a student’s account.
Q My son is leaving yeshiva for the day and he needs to be able to receive and make calls; what can I do?
A
Be B’Kesher is able to program an exception day for your child’s phone. On an exception day, the phone will not have any blocks and will be able to call/text and receive calls/texts normally. To schedule an exception during the school year, please follow the instructions from your school for the protocol designated by that institution. Please submit the request at least 24 hours before the exception day is needed.
Q Will my son’s phone work regularly during vacations (i.e. off-Shabbosim, summer, Succos, Pesach)?
A
Aside from restricting internet, Be B’Kesher only programs your child’s phone for when school is in session. By default, during vacations, with the exception of internet connectivity, the phone will have no blocks and will function like any other cell phone.
Q Who can I contact for questions?
A
You can use our contact page or call customer service at 646-580-1133. You can also email us at schools@bebkesher.com. When sending an email, please make sure to include your child’s first and last name and cell phone number.
